The story behind Cambridge Labyrinth
In the early 19th century there was little progress in scientific developments in the United Kingdom. This only changed when Philosophical Societies sprang up all over the country where people could meet and listen to conversations about the latest discoveries and inventions. William Whewell of the University of Cambridge became a founding member of the Cambridge Philosophical Society. This turned the UK's universities into the world's leading scientific research centers as we know them today. The term "scientist" did not even exist at the time and was not coined until 1833 by William Whewell.
It is said that there was only one requirement to join the Philosophical Society - aspirants only had to pass the entrance exam by opening a mechanical box called the "Cambridge Maze", invented by the scientist William Whewell.
Now you have the chance to take on this challenge, which for many inventors was the first step into the world of science.
